Fifteen-year-old Varya's parents divorced many years ago, but the girl has not lost hope that her father will one day return and they will be happy again. To numb her emotional pain, her mother has buried herself in work and pays little attention to her growing daughter. Varya, however, doesn't mind; she has friends and a boyfriend she spends plenty of time with. One fateful day, her mother presents Varya with the fact that she has fallen in love and a man will now be living in their home. All of the girl's dreams of her father's return are shattered. She is categorically against her mother's lover and is willing to do anything to drive the stranger out of her home and bring her father back to the family. The story is based on real events. The book reached the short-list of the Russian Literary Prize (2022) in the Best Children's Writer category and was a finalist for the Electronic Letter Prize (2022) in both the general long-list and short-list for the coming-of-age novel category.
